10" x 12.5" x 13"

If a Tree Falls...

If a tree falls
In the forest
And no one
Is there to hear,
Did it make a sound?

If a suicide bomber
Murders a large
Population
And no media
Reports it,
Did it make a sound?

If a child cries out;
“See me, hear me,
Hold me,”
And no one does,
Did the child make a sound?

In an interdependent world
Is it enough for one—
Be it tree, bomber, or child—
To hear their own sound?

No! It is not enough.
Yes, it happens,
But it is not enough.

The impact
Always ripples
In sound waves,
However subtle
Or delayed,
For we are all of one heartbeat.
And if we do not hear it,
It is only that we fool ourselves.
