Gazing out across the painted sky, Sally
and Dolly
fantasized one day leaving Salvador’s sweltering valley.
On a wing and a prayer they would glide to Chicago to
dine with Judy at her table of many settings. They’d feast
on Fritos and kahlua while discussing surrealistic dreams
while violent windstorms raise the Tanning children’s hair
on end. Remember when Max left his wife for his “bride of
the wind,” carrying tons of Leonora’s magical animals to
Mexico in search of a cure? The remedies vary, but each
woman knows, “Alchemy or Useless Science.”
